Ok, so lets just call the last class a wash! I hate not having complete use of my own computer, but for the next class I will try to update straight from my phone as much as possible. Last class was a blast and I learned soooo much! Of course the last day was all about cleaning up the kitchen, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as i thought. We also lost another classmate in a rather strange and dramatic fashion…..He sat through the final and then as everyone was finishing up and preparing to leave, he packed his things and told everyone he was leaving! No one is really sure what happened, but we are officially a one man class now. Of course the chef said we’ll likely lose more classmates, but other than the one I hope will disappear soon, I think we’re pretty set. Idk why it took me so long to realize that new class means new chef! I’m really gonna miss Chef Volk…he always had just the right balance of seriousness and fun. Hopefully the next chef will be equally cool in his own way.
Sooooo, next class is Intro to Baking and Patisserie! And that means….drumroll please……that we finally get to cook/bake individually rather than just watching demos!!!! I think it’ll just be cookies and muffins and the like, but I’m still looking forward to learning more and being able to put that knowledge to practice! I’m even looking forward to production practicals, thought it freaks me out a little. I think both being timed and then judged on the outcome as well as my time management will be so helpful in preparing me for my externship and future employment since I don’t have any actual kitchen experience.
I can’t believe the next class starts tomorrow! Time really does fly, I just want to make sure that I am learning as much as possible, actually retaining the info, and taking advantage of this and every opportunity.
Again, I will do better for the next class, promise!
